about

Satori is my first ever guitar-only album. In contrast to my other albums which were rather pluralistic, this album features predominantly metal-based music with other genres interspersed.

Flee Funk, the opening track, is heavily inspired by the bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Flea). This play on words alludes to my inability to ever match the renowned bassist's prowess. The only things I can claim upon writing this bass part were that my fingers literally turned black and blue from slapping so hard.

Blades I-IV are the main soundtrack songs to the film "The Way of the Blade" by Knowitall productions. Not only was the composition of this soundtrack fluid and fun, but it was highly improvisatory, with most of these tracks written and performed in a single take.

In all of these tracks on the album, I have played all of the instruments except the drum parts, which utilize Logic's Drummer function.

Lotus is a renaming of the first movement of a three-movement miniature suite for classical guitar that I wrote entitled "My guitar is a cello". I hope to record the other two movements at some future time; right now I am focusing my artistic efforts elsewhere, but the composition of "My guitar is a cello" is completely finished and ready for performance by any guitarist. The title of the suite refers to the tuning of the lower four strings of the guitar to cello tuning.

34 over 44 refers to a time signature change from 3/4 to 4/4, that appeared in Logic when I was tracking to be "34/44". The overall vibe of this tune is of funk and soul.

The last track, Armchair Philosophers, is actually two tracks with a large gap in between them. Originally reflections on Buddhist concepts, I found them a bit ostentatious as I noticed how overly-serious I was taking these ideas. So, I backed off the tone of the words that were spoken in this track by naming the song it "Armchair Philosophers", alluding to that fact that I really don't know what I'm saying and I shouldn't be taken seriously.

My next goals musically are to finally record myself singing. This is a scary thing for me, but I believe I can pull it off. We will see where my next musical journey takes me. Thank you so much for listening; I hope you enjoy the very heavily guitar-based music in this album.
